Welcome to the new Ecomythic Paradigm and the Rights of Nature Australia

Join Dr Geoff Berry to explore mythology and ecology in an interactive story telling session in support of RONA16, the Rights of Nature Australia tribunal. Geoff will discuss how urbanised life has transformed the planet, outlining a new ecological history of humanity as informed by his decades of research. From Prometheus to fossil fuels, ancient Mesopotamia to corporate capitalism, comparing indigenous and modern mythologies and putting it all into the context of our beautiful, living ecosystem.

Designed for those interested in the fascinating history and promise of mythology, the fragile power of the earth to heal itself, and ways to creatively adapt to anthropogenic climate change right now.

Dr Geoffrey Berry’s ecomythic view of humanity and the personal psyche has been widely published in academic journals and is now being offered to the public in a unique workshop format, where his principles and research content are combined with the exceptionally dynamic techniques of psychodrama – a creative action based modality that brings personal and collective story to life via dramatized enactment.

Utilising the synergy of a group process, Julie directs and co-creates with participants to provide opportunity for exploration, raised awareness, and transformation. Geoff is particularly pleased to be working with Julie on the EMPD workshops, saying that "Julie is brilliant at supporting participants in their self-explorations and her combination of openness to the meaning of whatever arises plus the atmosphere of complete safety she provides participants with makes her the perfect person to help shift us into the ecomythic dimension."

Both facilitators have roots in Melbourne, Australia, and travel worldwide sharing their knowledge and passion for a deeper experience of being human on earth.

Testimonials from the inaugural workshop in Melbourne, November 2015:

"Thankyou to Geoff Berry and Julie Lacey (and fellow workshop attendees) for an incredibly inspiring weekend! It was a privilege to be part of such profound and pioneering work. I walked away feeling not only more connected to myself but also to the natural world around me. Through exploring and integrating the 'here and now' with the 'more than human' elements of existence I feel more open hearted, grounded and connected. From this place I truly believe infinite change and transformation can begin, not only personally but rippling out into my community and from there potentially the world. To combine ecology and mythology and to explore it on a personal level is an unbelievably powerful gift. When we take time to listen to ourselves and to the world around us anything is possible. Powerful work indeed :) With thanks always." Briony Tronson.

Let's get together and feel more connected and more grounded, with the aid of sacred myths of earth and sky, sunny days and starry nights, fresh and salt water spirits, fire dragons and wind storms, being in the body and in community, feeling at home on earth and being loyal to all our kin here, including the more-than-human!

We grow psychologically and emotionally according to the same patterns we find in nature.                                                                    And we can get better at this.

And we can get better at this.

Level 1: Feeling at home in the body

  • We could always do with more of a sense of who we are right now, experiencing ourselves more clearly as living bodies, self-aware, intelligent, conscious and physical all at the same time. Geoff introduces applied phenomenology - a way of becoming more deeply aware of ourselves as living, breathing matter alert to the spirit of life constantly arising within. This experiential is also informed by Geoff's earth-based Zen practice of deep listening and that golden glow we all know emanates from the deep within. Access the free lesson here

Level 2: Feeling connected to community

  • We know we are part of an interconnected movement of like-minded people the world over, waking up to our unlimited potential to live a life true to our ancient bonds, together as kin. Traditionally, all of us were tied to a couple of hundred others, in small bands; we might not always have liked all of them, but we learned from a young age to get along. And over millennia of our evolution and lifestyle, we've enjoyed deep, intimate connections with others, to whom we could turn with confidence when times got tough. This experiential draws on this ancient and timeless wisdom to bring us all together in a new way that suits the temper of the times: here is a postmodern, quantum, digital era community of embodied souls, working together.
We may not have a campfire on the day, but we all know that feeling, of warm company and shared soul

Level 3: Feeling part of the earth

  • This exercise is an opportunity to remind ourselves that we are all born of the earth, that we belong here, that we are living and breathing creatures who are kin with the other animals and plant beings. There is a reason we sense wild beauty in the company of mountains, fresh water, clean air, powerful storms and desert sands. This is our homecoming. Geoff's work here is inspired by Deep Ecology, Zen and the Tao, the great myths of old and new ages, indigenous wisdom and our very own humble and magnificent dreams.
We live as part of the cosmos, embedded within the stars, which expand out of the fire of the universe,  which give rise to us ... we are born out of stardust, literally. It's just a matter of timescale. And perspective.
